Sa Bom Nim Hanke has been studying the martial arts since 1960, and has been teaching for over 45 years. He has continued to study Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan since the inception of our art in the United States. His first instructor was Master Dale Drouillard, the first American to receive the rank of Dan. Sa Bom Nim Hanke's current instructor is the President of our art Kwan Jang Nim H.C. Hwang, son of our late Founder, Kwan Jang Nim Hwang Kee. He is a Charter Member of our organization and has served on the Board of Directors and Technical Advisory Committee. Currently, Sa Bom Nim Hanke is a member of the Senior Advisory Committee (S.A.C).

Sa Bom Nim Lockwood started training in 1986 at the age of 7 under Sa Bom Nim Russ Hanke in Wyandotte, MI. Sa Bom Nim Lockwood has been teaching for over 17 years. Additionally, he has been a recognized competitor on a regional, national and international level. In 2000, Master Lockwood participated in the Ko Dan Ja Shim Sa, the 8 Day testing required for the rank of Sa Dan (4th Degree, Master Ranking). This was one of the pinnacles of his training. After being promoted to Sa Dan in 2000 he has volunteered to attend the Ko Dan Ja Shim Sa as a visitor to support the candidates and the senior members conducting the testing. He has attended every Ko Dan Ja since 2000 to further his knowledge and bring back the latest teachings from the Kwan Jang Nim and Technical Advisory Committee. In 2005, he was promoted to 0 Dan (5th Degree) and achieved the Master level certified instructor title of Sa Bom Nim. In August of 2005, he was appointed as Regional Examiner for Region 5 (MI, IN, IL, OH). This position is held to maintain the technical standards passed down from the Kwan Jang Nim and Technical Advisory Committee. His travels have included events all over the United States, Europe and Korea. He looks to continue his travels especially on the international level to help take action in our Mission 2000 goals of Improved Human Relations through our art of Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan.
